‍Our Take:

Yotpo is the largest of the eCommerce review platforms, but we don’t recommend them for most companies. Founded in 2011, Yotpo was one of the earliest review platforms, and they have used that early start to become the dominant reviews platform. However, in conversations with customers, there is a sense that the company has rested on their laurels and stopped innovating. Customers also complain about their high prices and widget which slows page speeds. Customers did like their survey flow which allows for survey responses in the email itself. It also has loyalty / rewards functionality so that you can manage both reviews and loyalty in a single platform, but we recommend using best-in-class offerings for each rather than a single platform.

Yotpo Overview:

Yotpo was founded by Tomer Tagrin and Omri Cohen, two friends who met at Tel Aviv University where they studied computer science and engineering. The idea for Yotpo originated when Tomer tried to buy a nice camera for his friend's birthday based on online reviews, but it turned out to be a poor quality camera. This made Tomer realize the need for authenticity in online reviews. Initially, Tomer and Omri tried building a review search engine that ranked reviews, but realized they needed to generate the content themselves to ensure authenticity. In 2012-2013, they decided to focus on eCommerce SMEs and integrated with Shopify's APIs to get their first customers. After getting positive feedback from an early Shopify merchant, they were able to raise $1.5 million in funding in 2013 to further build out the product. Today, Yotpo is a leading ecommerce review platform valued at over $1.4 billion.

Yotpo pricing πŸ’°:

Yotpo offers tiered pricing based on the number of orders per month. They recently lowered their pricing so that it is more competitive at higher order volumes, but we still think there are better alternatives when it comes to review platforms.
